Poll - Mac or PC This is for LTP & Silli, also I'm curious as to what the major differences are between the two (computers, not posters!). :) My gf has a Mac and always gives me crap about using a PC. Which do you prefer? What is your favorite feature? Least favorite feature? If you could switch one feature (say from a PC is you're a Mac user or vice versa) which would it be? What do you feel are the advantages and disadvantages of either or both?

Mac, obviously. I use both comfortably. For the work I do it usually doesn't matter which I'm on, except my work PC has two monitors which makes coding and comparing files easier. For photography, web design, editing audio/video and the fun things I use a computer for a mac is so much easier to use and much more efficient. Languages and special characters are still easier to input on a mac than on a pc, and this is an important consideration for me in choosing which computer I'll work on. Only thing I'd change about my mac is my hard drive, because no matter how large a hard drive I get, I always seem to fill it. But that has nothing to do with the computer, I just need to stop filling it with music and pics.

at the risk of participating in a platform war I will say I use and love Macs. But in a way, to me it's like asking if I like Gibson or Fender better. I think that both platforms are pretty amazing. But I don't personally enjoy working in Windows. And I hate Microsoft, although Bill Gates and his wife do good things with their billions. But yeah - I use and love Macs. They just speak to me more. Used to be almost all music and art apps were Mac-only. That's no longer true, but the Mac platform just feels best to me, and I know it well enough to fix things when they go wrong. In fact, I just got a brand new iMac for my studio, and it's almost obscene how much I love it. I now have three Macs. How the hell did that happen? I have used Windows, and it's OK. Oddly, though, the more Mac-like Microsoft tries to make Windows, the less I like it. I used Vista briefly, and almost went insane. If I could change one thing about Macs, I'd make them less expensive.

Windows still leads in some areas Like: POP or Point of Purchase all-in-one cash register/inventory/commerce systems, CAD, Library systems at the client level (the server might be Mac or Linux or Windows, but the librarians/staff are using Windows) and game software at the high end. Macs are still better for graphics, video editing, sound, and multilingual text processing, where you have multiple languages and writing systems in a single doc (which is not exactly a common use, it's a tiny tiny niche).

Also I think macs have nicer fresh outa-the-box functionality for home computing. Iphoto, Itunes, Icalendar are simple and fun to use.

just curious... why do you not enjoy working in WIndows? I just got a new pc with Wiin7 and can not tell teh big difference that all the hype was about. Other thaqn there's a big banner up top like macs have with a bunch of icons that i never click on. No major change from XP that I can see. The only issues I've had were from Windows Hotmail (live mail) and trying to get support from Windows for it. So just curious as to what you dont' like.

Mac at home. Windows at work. I admit I like the two-button mouse standard for the PC. I hate all touch screens equally. And more so if I have to share my computer with any other dirty, stick-handed human.

Mac for me In fact I have only ever used Macs, so I'd be useless at comparing them to PCs. I have on occasion used friends' PCs, and they confuse me... But I think that is simply because I'm not used to Windows.

question If you are familiar with linux on an imac g3, may I email you?

yeah but how many people use Chinese, Hebrew and English all in one document? I am getting that Mac is better for certain specific uses but for the basic, schlub who just wants to shop on eBay, flirt on Match.com, discuss on CL forums, store pics on Photobucket and send a few personal emails.....isn't Windows just fine?

Its fine until it isn't fine. I find Macs far more intuitive to trouble shoot. I'll never forget my sister's panicked when her PC couldn't find its own internal CD drive. I mean, that's ridiculous.
