Guess who's not going to get any sleep tonight? A kitten found us. An incredibly wriggly, very dirty kitten who was hiding under a truck across the street in the rain when I got home tonight. I can't put him back outside. And my elder cat is freaking out with him in the house. I think he has pinkeye. Do cats get pinkeye? Crap.

Crappity crappity crap He's finally asleep in my lap. The princess is outside, and boy is she pissed. The kitten is going to cry all night if I leave him alone upstairs, and she's going to kill him if I don't. :-(

The conjunctiva is a mucous membrane, similar to that of the mouth and nose, that surrounds the eyeball forming a seal with the inner surface of the eyelids. The third eyelid is also covered by conjunctiva. In normal cats the conjunctiva is not readily visible and has a pale, salmon pink color. Conjunctivitis (pink eye) is an inflammation of this membrane which becomes swollen and reddened often making it more visible. Conjunctivitis can affect one (unilateral) or both (bilateral) eyes. I wonder if cat pinkeye is contagious to humans, and if my cat's going to get it from him spending one night here :-(

I don't know if humans can get it, but I would be sure to keep your adult cat away from the kitten just in case.

that is soo sweet. isn't it great that something that was alone now has a nice spot to rest. If I were PMSing, I'd be tearing up. Luckily I'm all good and will just smile.

If you keep him isolated like in a plastic dog crate when you can't be with them, the kitten will be safe from the big cat and the big cat will be safe from any infection the kitty might have. You can set up a smallish kennel with a litter box, food, toys etc. Kittens are meant to be in dens while they're young and their mom leaves them alone when they hunt. Kittens commonly get ear and eye problems, especially outdoor kittens. You don't want to mess around with the eyes - I suggest taking her to the vet asap. Meanwhile, you can get some antibiotic polysporin ear/eye DROPS (not the ointment) and medicate both of her eyes. The vet will have something much more effective though. Good for you for taking her in.

Feline conjunctivitis can not be passed on to humans...so no worry there, however, it can be passed on to your cat. Just FYI.

I hope you did finally get some sleep I am sure you kept your kitty from the kitten which would keep your kitty from getting sick. Wash your hands after petting the little one to be safe too. Kitten is more likely to have another infection in its eyes than pink eye. Take a cloth with warm water and try to clean the cakey stuff off. Let it soak and loosen before wiping though. Awesome of you to help the little one. Wish I was closer I would come over to help.
